Last Week

Last week, me and Colleen did a check list of all the winners that are coming. We also had to find out if their membership information and if their membership was up to date. We then had to figure out the events that they were signed up to participate in for the Awards Weekend.

Today, we have still been getting all of the NSSA membership cards ready and sent out to the members. The NSSA membership have to be renewed every year.
Also, all of the awards for the banquet were delivered today and are completely covering our office space.

AIPS and NSSA Cards

Today we recieved the most recent AIPS, International Sports Press Association, cards. To be able to do a story internationally, the sportswriter or sportscaster has to have an undated AIPS card with them. When we recieve these cards, it is our job to make them an NSSA card as well. My job for the day was to make the NSSA cards for these sportscasters and sportswriters from all over the nation.

Business After Hours

This Monday night was the first Business After Hours that I was able to participate in. This was a monthly networking event for the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. It was an event to market to all the local businesses of the Rowan County community and also to promote our awards weekend in May. We drew in over 180 of the businesses and had a great night of food catered from Sweet Tea's. We also gave out door prizes. It was a great turn out and I got a chance to meet many of the local people of Rowan County.

Introduction

I began my internship with the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association and Hall of Fame (NSSA) three weeks ago. It has given me the opportunity to learn about not only the public relations aspect, but also, marketing. I am helping the Executive Director Dave Goren and Colleen Smiley with the NSSA activities. The NSSA is celebrating their 52^nd Anniversary on May 16^th. As of right now, we have been in preparation for getting everything ready for this event. We are doing everything from charity golf and tennis tournaments, booking hotel rooms, catering food, renting space for the event, and getting invitations out to all the guest and award winners. Although it has been pretty slow these past three weeks,  we are beginning to get more busy as we receive guests RSVP’s.
